Carol M. Martin, age 91, peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, February 22, 2024, embraced by her loving family. Born to Michael and Phoebe (Stoneman) Koch on October 8, 1932, Carol was the last living of 12 children.
Growing up on a dairy farm in Mishicot, Carol understood the value of hard work, persistence, and a tree tall enough to hide in to read a book. She graduated high school in 1948, and at age 16 left for Milwaukee to work in bookkeeping. She returned home a year later and began working for a local business in Two Rivers. Coincidentally, around the time Carol began working there, Earl A. Martin began stopping by the business much more frequently. On May 19, 1956, Carol married Earl in Menasha, WI.
In the following years she made time to continue her work in bookkeeping alongside Earl at Deja & Martin Funeral Home, as well as raising four children. Whether encouraging their interest in music and the arts, shuttling them to practices and rehearsals, or fostering a love of nature and community service as a scout den mother and troop leader, Carol took incredible care of and pride in her children. As a devout Catholic, Carol also made time to volunteer and support her community at Holy Redeemer (St. Peter the Fisherman), especially when the call was for a bake sale that needed the most delicious and precisely cut toffee squares you've ever seen.
As an avid card player, Carol enjoyed bridge and sheepshead, often hosting clubs. In her later years she developed a fondness for rousing games of Left, Right, Center around the kitchen table with her children and grandchildren. During her retirement years, Carol kept her love of learning and history alive with continued volunteerism for the historical society and library. Though age may have slowed her some physically, Carol's brilliant mind never faded. She remained a reliable friend and confidant to those who knew her and a keeper of family stories for all those who followed.
Carol is survived by her children: Mary K. Martin and Tom Gerber, Waleska, GA; James and Linda Martin, Westfield, WI; Michael and Lori Martin, Naperville, IL; and Trish and Paul Snyder, Fredonia, WI; three grandchildren, Nicole (JT) Mathy, Samantha Martin, and Joshua Martin; one incredibly loved great-granddaughter, Elyse Mathy; and one step grandson, Trenton Gerber. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Elizabeth Cedaro and Mary Beth Carpenter; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Friday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
The funeral service will be live streamed on the St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church website or St. Peter the Fisherman Facebook page.
