Don Swoboda

Don Swoboda, age 88, longtime resident of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Don was born in Manitowoc on September 18, 1933 to Matthew and Anna (Cisler) Swoboda. He was a 1951 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On October 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Carol Krueger at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Don served his country during the Korean War (1953-1955) as a member of the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for many years in the banking industry, eventually retiring as branch manager and assistant vice president of North Shore Savings in Two Rivers. Don was very active with many local clubs and organizations including the Two Rivers Kiwanis, where he was the longest serving member of the club to date. He was awarded the Kiwanis Lifetime Achievement Award for 55 years of service to his club and community, an award which had never before been accomplished by a Kiwanis member. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1957; served on the Library Board; and as chairman of the Finance-Utility Division of the United Way. In his spare time, he enjoyed Curling and was a charter member of the Two Rivers Curling Club; he enjoyed watching Horse Pulling Contests and over the years was part of several horse pulling teams; he enjoyed driving and restoring old tractors; and spending time at the cabin in Antigo with friends and family (remembered as camp cook at the Bluebird Lodge).

Survivors include his wife, Carol; four children: David (Vivian) Swoboda of Safety Harbor, FL, Lynn (Jim) Paulow of Sheboygan, Todd (Lois) Swoboda of Manitowoc, and Karen (Craig) Stangel of Oostburg; seven grandchildren: Cameron (Sarah) Swoboda, Ian (Lauren Thomas) Swoboda, Megan (Tim) Bolgert, Valerie Kingsbury, Michael (Aye) Swoboda, Parker Stangel, Rylee Stangel; and three great-grandchildren: Harper, Maeve, and Barrett. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Gloria Kronforst of Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Anna Swoboda; one grandson, Stephen Paulow; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Herman and Helen Krueger; and two sisters: Elaine (Richard) Meyer, and Shirley (Clarence) Long.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Dave Pleier, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Military graveside honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post # 1248 and American Legion Post # 165 of Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church Friday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
