Dr. Mary Ann Zlatnik-Kluiber

August 1, 1931 — April 5, 2022

Dr. Mary Ann Catherine Zlatnik Kluiber, 90, longtime resident of Bernardsville, NJ, passed away April 5, 2022 in Mequon, WI. Dr. Zlatnik practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 50 years. During her career she delivered thousands of beautiful babies to Bernardsville area residents. She had the air of an old-school country doctor seeing patients in an office attached to her home on Olcott Lane. Beyond her medical profession, Mary Ann was much more – an educator, naturist, equestrian, wife, mother, and friend. Throughout her life, she used her wry sense of humor to engage and uplift those around her.

Mary Ann was born in 1931 in Two Rivers, WI to Dr. Alfred P. Zlatnik and Florence Calkins Zlatnik. She attended Carleton College in Minnesota and earned her MD from the University of Wisconsin. She performed her medical training in Jersey City, NJ. Mary Ann practiced obstetrics and gynecology at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She was recognized for 50 years of outstanding medical service by the American Medical Association and received an award for 50 years of distinguished service as a physician by the Medical Society of New Jersey. Throughout her career Dr. Zlatnik admired her colleagues and was a friend to her staff. Above all, she was dedicated to her patients.

Mary Ann was enthusiastic about all her interests. Foremost, she was a Green Bay Packer fan and prized all things Wisconsin. She was a lover of books and geography, a breeder of Saint Bernard dogs and a devotee of birds. In her youth, she was an accomplished equestrian. During her retirement, she spent time with her grandchildren going on small field trips and conducting simple scientific experiments to help them learn about nature. Also, she volunteered at the Friends of the Great Swamp in Basking Ridge, NJ.

Mary Ann is survived by her brother Dr. Frank J. Zlatnik of Iowa City, Iowa and four children: Rudolph Karl of Dallas, TX, Catherine of Lexington, MA, Rudolph Mark of Milwaukee, WI, and Susan of Holliston, MA; sons-in-law Michael J. Fahy and Liam O’Sullivan; and five grandchildren: Callie and Sheena Fahy, and Aidan, Michael and Summer O’Sullivan. Mary Ann is predeceased by her husband Dr. Rudolph Ward Kluiber who died in 2020 and her elder brothers Alfred Zlatnik and Dr. Philip A. Zlatnik.

A private burial was held in Two Rivers, Wisconsin on April 11, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to either the Two Rivers Historical Society or the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ Two Rivers.
