Elizabeth "Betty" Dietrich

Elizabeth "Betty" Dietrich, peacefully entered eternal life Thursday morning, April 3rd, 2025.

Betty was born in the Town of Franklin on November 6, 1935 to John and Margaret (Shamburek) Ebert. She attended Valders High School for 1 semester when tragically her mother passed away. Betty took over the role and responsibility of mother to her 8 siblings, the youngest being only 4 months old. At an age where she should have been enrolled in school activities or just hanging out with friends, Betty was helping raise a family – learning to can every vegetable or fruit that was grown in the huge garden or brought to them. With the help of her grandmother, Anna Ebert, she did the best she could – and if you were to ask any of her siblings, they would tell you she did an amazing job. Even after all siblings moved out of the house, Betty continued to care for her father, as he moved in with Betty and her own family until the time of his death.

On October 8, 1958 she married the love of her life, Arthur E. Dietrich at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Whitelaw. This time she took on the role of wife and mother to her own family. Although mainly a “homemaker”, Betty did also waitress at Tudy’s in Taus – to earn extra money or just to get out of the house? Betty was a longtime member of St. Michael's Parish and St. Michael's Christian Mothers Society.

Betty was well known for her canning skills, especially her “pickles”. People returned year after year in hopes of buying a couple jars of her goodies. Even though their garden is no more, she has passed on her recipes down to her children and grandchildren. However, we will be the first to admit they just don’t seem to taste as good as hers!

Betty and Art were avid campers for many years - starting with a pop-up and graduating to a travel trailer. They truly enjoyed going to the Hodag in Rhinelander for many years and passed on that enjoyment to their children and grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed years of “card club” with friends where the men played sheepshead and the women played Royal Rummy for pennies! There was always a deck of cards in Betty’s purse to get a game of sheepshead started wherever they went. Betty loved her family and always looked forward to any visitors that stopped in to say “hi”.

Survivors include her husband, Art Dietrich; her five children and their spouses: Jeff (Janel) Dietrich, Whitelaw, Donald (Barb) Dietrich, Kellnersville, Gary (Beth) Dietrich, Collins, Lisa (Dan) Lensmire, Whitelaw and Kim (Todd) Schneider, Whitelaw; seven grandchildren: Alyssa (Jim) Clarke, Emily (Nick) Jubert, Jacob Dietrich (fiance, Joyce), Joshua (Amy) Dietrich, Matthew (Melissa) Lensmire, Michael Lensmire, Maria Lensmire (fiance, Jacob); and seven great-grandchildren: Easton and Addison Clarke, Rorie Jubert, Trenton and Carson Dietrich, and Cole and Hayes Lensmire. She is further survived by one sister & two brothers-in-law: Barb (Paul) Wallander, and Joseph Welch; two brothers and five sisters-in-law: Tom (Betty) Ebert, Dan (Barb) Ebert, Ruth Noack, Judy Dietrich and Claire Dietrich; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Ebert; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Arthur and Clara Dietrich; one infant son; a great-grandson, Landyn Lensmire; four brothers & two sisters-in-law: Jack Ebert, Eddie Ebert, James (Audrey) Ebert, Russell (Evelyn) Ebert; one sister, Margaret Welch; and other in-laws: Robert Dietrich, Charlie (Florence) Dietrich, Larry (Joan) Dietrich, Jerry (Delores) Dietrich, Leo Dietrich, John Dietrich, Baby Lois Ann, Sister Lois Ann, Dorothy (Alfred) Hoffman, and JoAnn (Scotty) Eiles.

Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. Concelebrating the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Richard Klingeisen and a nephew, Rev. Bill Hoffman, assisted by Deacon Randy Jaeckels. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maple Grove at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Michael's Catholic Church Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 11:45 a.m. There will be no Monday evening visitation.
