Fred "Whitey" Giesler, Sr.

Frederick J. "Whitey" Giesler, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, March 7, 2022.

Fred was born in Green Bay on December 30, 1940 to Frederick and Catherine (Kaye) Giesler. He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1959 and then joined the U.S. Navy with his friend, Ben Koehler. He was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany where he rose to Air Control Petty Officer - 2nd Class. Fred was honorably discharged from active duty in October,1963 after having traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines and offshore Vietnam. Fred married Geraldine Lapacz on May 30th, 1964 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay and they enlarged their family with the birth of their daughter, Amy, and son, Fritz.

Fred's employment included Birdseye Dairy, Hudson Sharp, and finally Wisconsin Public Service. He first worked at the WPS Green Bay Pullium Plant until transferring to the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant in 1970. Fred worked in the Maintenance Department, eventually becoming Lead Maintenance Mechanic, and retiring in 2001. Fred loved fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. He became a partner in the Passages Duck Club which guaranteed always having a place for duck hunting for himself and generations to come. He was actively involved with Youth Hunting, and spent countless hours volunteering with "Challenge the Outdoors" which enabled disabled kids to enjoy fishing. Fred enjoyed many years at the Hodag Country Festival with friends; he was a former member of West Shore Sportsman Club; and active with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 731.

He is survived by his wife, Gerri; daughter & son-in-law, Amy (Steve) Franz of Manitowoc, and their children, Vaughn and Wyatt; his son & daughter-in-law, Fritz (Chris) Giesler of Two Rivers, and their children, Fred (Lindsey) Krause; Trevor (Tiffanie) Giesler, and their son, Braxton; daughter, Mariah (Micheal) Walker, and their daughters: Melanie, Adalynn and Arabella Walker. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law: Barbara Ray and Janet Giesler of Green Bay; Judy Giesler of Suamico, and Donna McWilliams of Bossier City, Louisiana; nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Catherine Giesler; his brother, Edward Giesler; his sister, Patricia Watts; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louis and Ruth Lapacz; and his favorite dog, Sally.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th Street, Two Rivers on Sunday, March 13th from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. This will be followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Dave Pleier.

Military honors will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service by members of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 731, followed by a celebration of life.
