Gale R. (Booster) Mangin

July 18, 1940 — August 23, 2021

Gale R. "Booster" Mangin, age 81, longtime town of Cato resident, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, August 23, 2021 at his residence.

Booster was born in Maple Grove on July 18, 1940 to Paul D. and Olive (Kiel) Mangin. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Maple Grove and graduated from Reedsville High School with the class of 1958. He then furthered his education, attending the Manitowoc County Teacher's College. He was a member of the United States Army Reserves from 1962 to 1967, and is a member of the Reedsville Amvets Post #1032. On October 2, 1965 he was united in marriage to Alice M. Herrmann at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. The couple was blessed with four children and just short of fifty-six years of marriage. Booster worked in construction his entire life as a member of the Laborer's Union Local #330. Over the years, he was employed with C.D. Smith, Hamann Construction and retired from Spancrete in 2002. He was an involved member of the Manitowoc County Fish & Game Association, Whitelaw Sportsmen's Club and lifetime member of the Clarks Mills Sportsmen's Club.

He spent many years hunting in Jackson County, sharing the camaraderie of many friends who joined him throughout the years. He loved fishing, including adventures to Canada as well as time spent ice fishing. Booster also enjoyed playing softball for many years with multiple teams throughout the county. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Packers & Brewers, enjoyed playing cards and visiting local establishments. He was very outgoing, loved to socialize and could strike up conversation or make a new friend with anyone. Above all, Booster enjoyed the time with his family and loved watching his grandkids participate in all their sporting events. He will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Alice, and four children: Sherry (Tom) Deets of Manitowoc, Steve (Amy) Mangin of Manitowoc, Susie (Tim) Bouressa of Kaukauna, and Scott Mangin of Cato; five grandchildren: Alex Deets (special friend, Alison Trovato), Andrew Deets, Philip, Teejay, and Owen Bouressa. He is further survived by a brother & sister-in-law, Lyle and Rosemary Mangin of Taus; one sister, Marlene Rohan of West Bend; and several sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws: Rita Mangin of Whitelaw; Richard (Mary Jane) Herrmann of Bellevue; Sr. Dolores Herrmann of Holy Family Convent Manitowoc; Marilyn (William) Sonnabend of DePere; Jerome (Terri) Herrmann of Cato; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Olive Mangin; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Richard and Mary Herrmann; three brothers and a sister-in-law: Darryl Mangin; Roger Mangin; Daniel (Margaret) Mangin; one sister and two brother-in-laws: Laverne (Kenneth) Hennessey; Don Rohan; and four infant siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock noon Saturday, August 28, 2021 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 110 W. Menasha Street, Whitelaw. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Richard Klingeisen, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Military graveside honors will be accorded by members of the Reedsville Amvets Post #1032.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Saturday morning from 9:00 until 11:45 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
