Grace E. Schleis

Grace Ethel Schleis, age 91, longtime resident of Mishicot, currently residing at the Northland Lodge in Two Rivers, entered eternal life Sunday evening, January 29, 2023.

Grace was born in Two Rivers on May 8, 1931 to Alvin and Leona (Meineke) Jindra, Sr. She was raised on a farm in the town of Mishicot and attended Mishicot Public Schools, graduating from Mishicot High School with the class of 1949. On June 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Emil W. "Red" Schleis, Jr. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mishicot. Grace's uncle, Rev. Edward Zell presided at the ceremony. Rev. Zell also presided at her baptism and confirmation. Red preceded Grace in death on January 5th, 2013.

Grace worked in the offices of Paragon Electric Co. in Two Rivers until the birth of their first child. After raising their three children, she returned to work for Krause's Shopping Center and later Mishicot Family Market for 34 years until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she remained very active and served as a Sunday School teacher. Grace was a longtime member of M.A.G.I.C. and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Mishicot Public Cemetery Assoc. for many years. She also served as a board member of the Mishicot Housing Corp. and was a longtime member of the After Sunset Homemakers Club. Over the years, Grace enjoyed camping, gardening, her flowers, and canning her famous pickles. Above all, she treasured the time with her family, and always loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her three children: Mark (Gayle) Schleis of Summerville, S.C., Nancy (Gordon) Haak of Elkhorn, WI, and Rev. Paul (Denise) Schleis of Green Bay; six grandchildren: Jessica Gall, Andrea Gall, Rev. Keith (Dawn) Schleis, John (Amy) Schleis, Dr. Greg (Cait) Schleis, Adam Schleis; and six great-grandchildren: Caleb, Carter, Charlotte, Naomi, Selah, and Lollie. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Jindra of Mishicot; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and her beloved cat, "Spookie". She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Leona Jindra, Sr.; her husband, Emil "Red" Schleis, Jr.; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Emil and Carrie Schleis, Sr.; son-in-law, Thomas Gall; sister, Ethel (Eddie) Breitwisch; brothers: Alvin (Billie Fey) Jindra, Roy Jindra, Dan (Patricia) Jindra; and in-laws: Alice (Jim) Anderle, Gladys (Dan) Nejedlo, and Janice (Gordon) Pautz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 325 Randolph Street, Mishicot. Her son, Rev. Paul Schleis, grandson, Rev. Keith Schleis, and Rev. Joel Stuebs will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in the Mishicot Public Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Northland Lodge for the wonderful care provided. Special thanks also to the caregivers of St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and kindness extended. The Schleis family would also like to thank Pastor Joel Stuebs and the many dear friends of St. Peter's Lutheran Church for the love, support, and special prayers offered for our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
