James E. Konop of Two Rivers, passed away in the hospital on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the age of 69.
Jim was born July 2, 1952, the youngest son of George and Marcella Konop. He grew up in Green Bay attending Premontre High School and graduating with the class of 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971, serving until honorably discharged with the rank of SSGT in 1975. While in service, he was stationed at Eielson AFB in Fairbanks, Alaska, which he loved. Returning home, he soon became employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Manitowoc, working as a letter carrier for twenty-six years, retiring in March, 2001. Jim will be remembered as the friendliest guy in town, waving and honking his horn at everyone. For many years, he enjoyed playing Elmo, Santa's official helper at Christmas. On April 20, 1996, Jim was united in marriage to Linda Wavrunek at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Two Rivers. He will be sadly missed by many.
Jim is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Linda; Best Buddy - his dog, Buttons; one sister, Peg, and one brother, Gary (Laurie) Konop. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Leonard Wavrunek; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marcella; and one brother, Dick.
A private funeral mass was held at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church on Friday, January 14th, followed by military honors.
