James J. Korinek, age 85, lifetime resident of Two Rivers, passed away Monday evening, May 15, 2023 at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
Jim was born in Two Rivers on September 4, 1937 to Anton and Florence (Kotarek) Korinek. He attended St. Luke's Catholic School and graduated with the class of 1955 from Washington High School in Two Rivers. He then served his country for 4 years as a member of the U.S. Navy. On August 29, 1959, he married Elrene Stangel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tisch Mills. The couple was blessed with sixty-three years of marriage.
Jim was employed with Eggers Plywood of Two Rivers for 42 years, retiring in 1999. He later worked part-time for a few years with Woodland Face Veneer Co. As a past-time hobby, Jim was very involved with Racing Pigeons over the years and served as past president of the Racing Homing Pigeons Club. Jim and Elrene were also very involved with various craft shows and operated a stand weekly at the Farmer's Market. James was a member of the Men of St. Peter the Fisherman, and in his younger days enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Elrene; one daughter, Kim Kirchen of Manitowoc; grandchildren: Becky (Brent) Sinkula, Jeanna (Shawn) Trindal; and great-grandchildren: Vienna & Taylor, Shavon, Mason, Gavin, and Savannah. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law, Jeanette Korinek, Mardell Doubek, and Marlene Dewane, all of Two Rivers; two god-children: Brenda Line and Ann Lyon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Florence Korinek; son-in-law, John Kirchen; three brothers: Bruce (Jan) Korinek, Gordon (Bette) Korinek, and Jerome Korinek; one sister & three brothers-in-law: Bernice (Clarence) Kohlbeck, Jerry Dewane, and Louie Doubek; an infant sister-in-law; and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leonard and Mildred Stangel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry, assisted by Deacon John Vincent. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tisch Mills.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m.
Military graveside honors will be performed at the church immediately following the mass by members of American Legion Post #165 and VFW Post #1248 of Two Rivers.
