James (Jim) LaFond, age 73, a lifelong resident of Two Rivers, passed away on Monday, August 15th, 2022.
He was born on March 10, 1949 to Cyril and Arbutus (Schaden) LaFond. Jim graduated from St. Luke's grade school and Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1967. He married Mary LaFond on April 17, 1971 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Mary was the love of his life. Together they were blessed with 49 years of marriage and had 3 children. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2020 after an 8-month battle with cancer.
After high school, Jim obtained a degree in Tool and Die from LTC in Cleveland, WI. He completed his apprenticeship and worked as a tool and die maker for more than 30 years at Paragon in Two Rivers. After Paragon moved out of Two Rivers, he was employed by HMF in Manitowoc until his retirement in 2011.
In his retirement he volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul in Two Rivers, the Two Rivers Senior Center, and his church, St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Parish, where he was also involved with it's Men's Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus - Council #1957, former Elks Club member, and served on the board of Rogers Street Fishing Village. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, playing cards, woodworking, and watching his beloved Packers.
Jim's greatest joys in life were Mary, his 3 children, and 9 grandchildren. Over the last few years, Jim liked to get the whole family together to enjoy a week at the lake and to try and catch enough fish to enjoy a delicious fish fry. This year he requested the week away be at Archibald Lake, which held many good memories from his childhood. It was there that he spent his last few days in the company of his children and grandchildren. Jim made sure to pass down this love of fishing, and for playing the card game SkipBo to his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his three children and their spouses: Scott (Michele) LaFond of Green Bay, Jeff (Dr. Kathryn) LaFond of Green Bay, and Sara (Eric) Trepanier of Oconto; nine grandchildren: Jordan Granger; Jared, Jenna and Jessica LaFond; Nicholas and Caitlyn LaFond; Owen, Sophie and Oliver Trepanier. He is further survived by 3 siblings: Judy LaFond and Bev Kreul (family friend) of Milwaukee, Marilyn (Paul) Howman of Plymouth, MN, John (Marie) LaFond of Two Rivers; six sisters-in-law and seven-brothers-in-law: Donald (Mardell) Tienor, David (Kathy) Tienor, Eleanor (Greg) Matczynski, all of Manitowoc; Janet (Jim) Wadzinske, Dan (Liz) Tienor, Dennis Basken, all of rural Manitowoc; and Paul (Gladys) Tienor of Valders; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Arbutus LaFond; his wife, Mary; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Arnold and Abertha Tienor; and a sister-in-law, Delores Basken.
