James A. Wilsmann, age 77, resident of Mishicot, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Jim was born in Two Rivers on February 18, 1946 to Roger and Loretta (Flentje) Wilsmann. He graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1964. Jim served our country as a proud member of the United States Army. He was a tank gunner in the Vietnam War (1968-69) until his honorable discharge. Returning home, he worked for a short time as a barber, before starting his career as a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Two Rivers Fire Department. He spent the next 26 years with the department, retiring on May 3, 2001.
Jim enjoyed many great years of retirement, mainly as a true sportsman who loved the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time in Point Beach State Forest any chance he had. As a longtime member of the Manitowoc Rifle & Pistol Club, he often enjoyed going out to the range to shoot. Jim was a huge supporter of the annual Highground Bike Tour for many years - A Heros Ride which supports the Highground's mission to honor, heal and educate our Veterans and their families. He was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #731 of Manitowoc Co. Above all, Jim loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially teaching his grandkids true sportsmanship.
He is survived by his son, Jeremy Wilsmann of Mishicot; one daughter & son-in-law, Kelly and Tim Roth of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren: Hannah, Will, and Luke; and the mother of his children, Lynn (Gary) Huempfner of Whitelaw. He is further survived by a brother & sister-in-law, Charles and Ann Wilsmann of Mishicot; one sister & brother-in-law, Nancy and Richard Klinkner of Two Rivers; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Loretta Wilsmann.
