Joan Greenwood, age 89, of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2022, at Felician Village in Manitowoc. She was born to the late James and Anne (Moran) Matthews in Preston, England, on April 7, 1933. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jim Greenwood. She is survived by her two sisters: Mary Utton and Ann Taylor, both of Leyland, England; four children: James (Lalis) Greenwood of St. Peters, MO, Richard (Linda) Greenwood and David (Lori) Greenwood of Two Rivers and Denise (Dan) Marshall of Chandler, AZ; her grandchildren: Sara and Josh Radginski, O’Fallon, MO, Jimmy and Danielle Greenwood, St. Charles, MO, Jeanette and Jason Greenwood/Kane, Two Rivers, Kellie Greenwood, Milwaukee, Makenzie Greenwood, Two Rivers, Scott and Nicole Marshall, Seattle, Nate Marshall, New York, NY and Suzie Marshall, Chandler AZ; and her great grandchildren: Luke, Emma, Carly, and Oliver Radginski and Iris Rose Kane; along with a great number of loving relatives and close friends.
Joan will always be remembered for her British accent and delicious English shortbread, lemon curd, pasties and scones, that she loved to make for others and sell at the TR Ethnic Fest. If you’ve ever been called “Love”, you have likely spent time with Joan. She endearingly called everyone, “Love”. Born and raised in Preston, England, Joan began working at the Post Office there, spending her free time at the ballroom dance hall, where she met her future husband, Jim. In 1957, Joan bravely said goodbye to her friends and family in England and emigrated to British Columbia, Canada, to marry and start her family. In 1969, Joan and family immigrated to Two Rivers, the place they would forever call their “home”. Joan was a familiar fixture in the lunchroom at Washington High School, serving lunch to the students for many years (1969-1981). There she made many friends and many still would stop Joan long after they graduated to say hello, which pleased her immensely! Joan was a dedicated wife and mother. Her support of her husband, Jim in his adventures and career changes was endless and effortless. And, no one could have been a better Mother to her children than “Joanie baby”! Joan enjoyed traveling to England each year to visit family and roaming with Jim in the RV to all corners of the US and Canada. For many years, she befriended the other English ladies in town in their English Club. She also enjoyed Jazzercise for many years and spending time with family.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Felician Village, where Joan spent the past 1+ years, as well as her devoted friend, Eleanor Motchula, who visited often to keep Joan company.
