Kenneth L. Swade

Kenneth L. “Ken” Swade, age 83, of Two Rivers, died Tuesday evening, November 29, 2022, with his family at his side at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.
Ken was born on June 24, 1939, in Two Rivers, a son of the late Richard and Lucy (Halla) Swade. He graduated from Mishicot High School with the Class of 1957. Ken served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957 to 1960. On June 24, 1961, he married Charlotte Peters at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Ken joined the Two Rivers Fire Department as a Firefighter in March of 1964, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1979, Captain in 1983 and was named Chief of the Department in 1986, retiring in January of 1995. Ken enjoyed his time on the family farm, gardening and going hunting and fishing. He was elected member of the Two Rivers City Council from 1995 to 2003, serving as President in 2001 and the Manitowoc County Board from 1993 to 2020. Ken was a longtime member of the Two Rivers Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife: Charlotte Swade; son: Dean Swade of Two Rivers; daughter and son-in-law: Dawn and Kevin Kaster of Greenleaf; grandchildren: Alison (Matt) Hills, Amanda Swade, Alan (Jill) Swade, Austin (Samantha) Swade, Dena (Adam) Wittenberg and Dale (Ryan) Dvorachek and great grandchildren: Rosalyn, Mathias and Kayliegh Hills, Aubree, Abby and Alanna Swade, Yelianna, Liam and Rowan Swade, Wyatt and Micah Wittenberg, and Clint and Cody Dvorachek. He is further survived by his brother: Richard Swade; and his in-laws: Brian Belonger, Curtis and Marie Peters, Susan Lemke, Rachel and Rodney Strzyzewski, Walter and Mary Peters and Tom and Jean Peters; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Donald and Daisy Swade; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Gustave and Eleanor Peters; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Belonger; brother-in-law: Roger Peters and a great granddaughter: Abigail Swade.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3607 45th St., Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Stephen Kruschel with burial to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Military honors will be accorded at Forest View Cemetery by members of American Legion Post #165 and VFW Post #1248 of Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. There will be no Sunday evening visitation.
