LaVerne M. "Toni" Schmitt-Becker

LaVerne M. "Toni" Schmitt-Becker, age 95, longtime Two Rivers resident, died unexpectedly Monday morning, January 13, 2025 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.

Toni was born in Manitowoc on March 12, 1929 to Cyril J. and Miranda (Toston) Antonie. She was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, then furthered her education at the local vocational school. On September 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Joseph P. Schmitt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. The couple was blessed with nine children and just 35 years of marriage before Joseph's sudden death on January 23, 1985. Toni later married Robert L. Becker on June 22, 1994 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. The couple resided in Atlanta for many years, eventually moving back to Two Rivers. Bob preceded her in death on April 8, 2021.

Toni worked for several years at Holy Family Hospital, before becoming a stay at home mom, caring for her nine children. She also worked part-time over the years at Domnitz Flowers, having worked for 3 generations of the Domnitz family. Toni was a dedicated volunteer throughout her lifetime wherever she saw a need or for anyone who needed a helping hand. She was an active volunteer for the Roncalli Athletic Association, the Ladies group of Holy Redeemer and later St. Peter the Fisherman Parishes, and many other organizations. She enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for large family gatherings; and loved any time the family could be together. She poured her heart into caring for her family, always going above and beyond. While the quartet traveled frequently, she embraced both the roles of mom and dad with unwavering love and dedication. Her commitment to her family was boundless, and she did whatever it took to ensure they were always supported and cherished. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Terri (Charlie) Young, Victoria (Eric) Peters, Kevin (Sherry) Schmitt, Liz (Robert) Johnson, Joel (Kathy) Schmitt, Christopher (Jacque) Schmitt, Andy (Michele) Schmitt, Clare (Derald) Stronach, Damian (Sue) Schmitt; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; two step-children: Norman Becker and Juliana (Bill) Brown and their children; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schmitt; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Miranda Antonie; husbands: Joseph P. Schmitt and Robert L. Becker; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry and Anna Schmitt; her brother, Melvin Antonie; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd. Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her godson, Rev. Carl Schmitt, Rev. Dave Pleier, and nephew, Deacon Frank Birr. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

The funeral service will be live streamed on the St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church website or St. Peter the Fisherman Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Roncalli Catholic Schools.
