Marian "Mitzie" Nelson

September 17, 1928 — March 4, 2022

Marian C. "Mitzie" Nelson, age 93, lifelong resident of Two Rivers, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at Edenbrook of Appleton.

Marian was born on September 17, 1928 in Two Rivers to the late Lester and Mildred (Koeser) Lonzo. She attended St. Luke's Catholic Grade School and Washington High School in Two Rivers.

On July 10, 1970, she married Jerome G. Nelson and they had two daughters, Joy (Mark) LeClair and Rachel Nelson. Jerome preceded her in death on February 5, 2013.

Marian did not work outside of the home and instead raised her family. She was known for her quick wit and spunk which made others laugh leaving her loved ones with cherished memories. Marian was proud to be brought up on the eastside of Two Rivers and raised in the beautiful Lonzo homestead her father built across from Neshotah Beach.

Survivors include her four children from a previous marriage: Claire (Donn Oaks) Hanson, Beth (Rick) Kolbeck, Linda (Denis) Stewart and Gary Ruskewicz; three stepsons: Larry (Kathie), Chuck, and Randy (Julie) Nelson;

grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Craig (Cathy) Kolbeck and children Cassidy and Caitlin, Tim (Tammy Cavanaugh) Kolbeck and children Devon, Bryce, Brianna and Bentley, Nick Kolbeck, Brittany (Scott) Riederer and daughter Laila, Chad (Karissa) Hanson and children Dareian, Dylan, Lexi and Ryker, Ryan (Jenn) Hanson and children Josh and Ellie, Clint (Alisha) Hanson and children Josh, Sarah and Tyler, Rachel LeClair, Amanda (Sam Stein) LeClair and son Isaiah, Dan Nelson, Heidi (Adam) Keifenheim and children Trenton and Rilee, Brian and Brenda Stewart and children, Daniel Ruskewicz; two sisters: Adrea Miles and Judy Orlopp; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lonzo; many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws: Neal (Regina), Donald, Leslie and Warren Lonzo; Lucille Early, Dale Orlopp, Jim Miles, Gerald (Dawn) Nelson, Norma (Leroy) Lutzke, Anita Nelson, Flora Roos and Preston Jones Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otto and Elsie Nelson; daughter-in-law, Diane Nelson; great-grandson, Kaden Kolbeck; and a nephew, Jimmy Miles.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12 at St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Parish located at N369 Military Road, Sherwood, WI. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Michael Betley, with entombment at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310 Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow at Van Abel's of Hollandtown. There will be no Friday evening visitation.

During Marian's last nine years of life, her journey led her into the loving care and home of her daughter Joy and son-in-law Mark in Sherwood, WI for almost six years due to Alzheimer's Disease. Sadly, on March 25, 2019, Marian suffered a massive stroke and as a result lived out her final years at Edenbrook of Appleton.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Edenbrook of Appleton for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Marian and her family these past three years.
