Marilee Hanshew

Marilee Hanshew, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, age 82, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Aurora Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born, September 1, 1940, in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of William Lester Hauldren, Jr. and Genevieve Magdelena Arnold of St. George. Her mother died suddenly when she was less than two years old and her father remarried and moved the family to Paola, Kansas.
Marilee attended grade school at St. Patrick’s Catholic School and went on to graduate from Ursuline Academy Girls High School, both in Paola, Kansas,.
She married Lloyd Gordon Miller on February 12, 1965, and made their home in Fort Scott, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Bryan Lloyd, and Elizabeth Ann. Gordon died tragically of a brain aneurism on April 22, 1968.
Marilee moved back to Paola, where she met and married Jerry Gene Hanshew on June 21, 1969. They became parents of Leslie Ann. The family made their home in Paola and St. Francis, Kansas and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Marilee, daughter of a Kansas Newspaper operator, found a niche working in local newspapers. They retired to Florida to be close to family, before settling in Two Rivers.
She enjoyed hand work especially cross stitch, crocheting and quilting. The homes of many of her family and friends are graced with her creations. She loved her pets, especially her cats and she spent many hours caring for her “fur babies”. She volunteered at the hospital and her church. She was an active member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church participating in both choir and bell choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Jerry. Her mother, Genevieve Hauldren. Her father Lester Hauldren, her step-mother Alice Hauldren and a half sister Nancy Hauldren Dollar.
She is survived by her children, Bryan (Tracy) Miller of Inwood, West Virginia; Elizabeth (Mark) Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana; Leslie Hanshew (Ron) Groth of Mishicot, Wisconsin. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Justin Bedney; Ashley (Taylor) Swank, Avary and Tyson; Allison (Corey) Minix; Andrew (Emma) Lewis. Also surviving: half-brother Bill (Lisa) Hauldren, Paola, Kansas. Nieces Linzi (Erik) Eyestone, Lilly and Emma; Erin (Dan) Burkdoll, Brynn, Blair, Lane and Dean; Lea (Ryan) Stegall, William Lester.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Road, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen, assisted by Deacon Paul Gleichner, with entombment in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy 310, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday morning at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
