Mary Agnes Scheuer

November 14, 1931 — October 1, 2022

Mary Agnes (Haen) Scheuer, age 90, entered into eternal life on October 1, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Agnes was born November 14, 1931, in Greenleaf, WI to George and Marcella (Leick) Haen. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Greenleaf and DePere High School. She attended the University of Wisconsin Extension – Green Bay Campus from 1949-1951, and the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh from 1951-1953. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, majoring in History and Library Science and minoring in English and Political Science.

On November 22, 1956, she married the love of her life, Frank Scheuer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenleaf. He preceded her in death April 22, 2002.

She served for 45 years as a teacher with the Mishicot Community Schools, retiring in 1998.

Mary Agnes was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Parish in Mishicot, where she volunteered in many capacities. She also instituted the Religious Education Program at Holy Cross where she served as a Catechist for many years. She was an active member of the Green Bay Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, where she served as Vice President and was also the Vicariate VII president. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Knights of WI Branch 189, Delta Kappa Gamma, a leader of the Mishicot Pine Grove 4-H Club and a Manitowoc and Brown County 4-H Leader. She received honorary life membership in the Mishicot High School FFA and FBLA. In 1983 she received the “Outstanding 4-H Leader Award” in Manitowoc County. In 1984 she was honored as “Teacher of the Year” at Mishicot High School and in 1996 she was honored in “Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers.”

Mary Agnes is survived by her children: Jim (Jeffer) Scheuer of Owen, WI, Tom Scheuer of Mishicot, Jean (Neil) Hopka of Two Rivers, Dan (special friend, Debbie) Scheuer of Mishicot, Deacon Dave (Betsy) Scheuer of Maribel, Marie (Kevin) Steeber of Mishicot, Joe (Kelly) Scheuer of Mishicot and Rita (Bob) Lee of Tomahawk; her grandchildren: Michael Steeber of Mishicot, John Scheuer of Big Sky, Montana, Kate (special friend Corrina) Lee of St. Paul, Minnesota, Grace Scheuer of Eau Claire, Jim Lee of Madison, Robert Steeber of Milwaukee and Izzy Lee of Tomahawk.

She is further survived by sisters and brother: Elizabeth Pinkert, Rose Marie Hibbard and George (Karen) Haen; her in-laws: Vernon Christopherson, Joan Brouchoud, and Dolly Scheuer; god-child, Jim Eells; special friends, Kevin Stoer and Beatrice Cisler; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Scheuer; her parents, George and Marcella Haen; her father-in-law and mother in-law, Irvin and Gertrude Scheuer; and grandchildren: Nicholas Steeber, Alyssa Steeber, Aimee Hopka, Nathan Hopka and Baby Lee.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Dorothy Christopherson, John Pinkert, Evelyn and Dale Christopher and Bob Hibbard; other in-laws: Mickie and Ed Juckem, Jeanette and Albert Hansen, John Scheuer, Katie and Vernon Pautz, Pat Scheuer, Lloyd Brouchoud and Mike Scheuer; also by nieces and nephews: Jeff Pinkert, Rocky Pinkert, Sid Daul, Diane Pautz, Diane and Al Blashka and Bob Brouchoud.

Visitation will be held at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State Street, Mishicot on Thursday evening, October 6th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. A prayer service at 8:00 p.m., led by Deacon Dan Gray will conclude the evening. Members of VFW Auxiliary #7753 will also hold a short service at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the funeral home after 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at which time a procession will leave for church for the time of mass at 11:00 a.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Fr. Christian Raj and Fr. Xavier Aritham at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7th at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, with entombment to follow in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.
