Melvin W. Hagedorn, age 86 of Two Rivers, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Mel was born March 10, 1938 in Marshfield, WI to Harley and Marjorie (Niebuhr) Hagedorn. He was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School in Two Rivers and served with the Army National Guard for 8 years (1955-1963). He was united in marriage to Eunice Vondrushka in 1960. She preceded him in death in 1965. He then married Judith M. Sprang on November 12, 1966 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Two Rivers.
Mel worked for several area businesses over the years including Eggers Industries for 25 years. He was also self employed operator of Mel's Maintenance; and worked for Lakeside Foods, maintained Village Green East Apartments, Carron Net Co., Woodland Dunes, and Manitowoc Motor Machining. Mel enjoyed many hobbies which included golfing, fishing, bowling, playing cribbage and lawn darts, and an occasional trip to the casinos. He also volunteered at the National Railroad Museum. Mel always enjoyed spending time with his wonderful neighbors who would often gather around Judy and Mel's backyard patio and pond.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; two sons: Wayne (LeaAnn) Hagedorn, Brian Hagedorn (special friend, Brenda Bashaw); one grandson, Michael DeSouto; and one sister, Nancy Keys of Portland, Oregon. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Kevin Sprang, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Marjorie Hagedorn; one brother, John (Sammie) Hagedorn; two sisters: Dorothy LaCroix and Merieta (Richard) Havlinek; a great-grandson, Clayton; two brothers-in-law: Allen (Dianne) Sprang and Dennis Sprang; and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Harold and Ethel Sprang.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Dave Pleier, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers at a later date. Military graveside honors will be accorded at the church immediately following the mass by members of American Legion Post #165 and VFW Post #1248 of Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church Thursday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation.
