Nancy L. Swoboda, age 85, of Manitowoc, died Tuesday afternoon, April 30, 2024, at Frontida Assisted Living in Manitowoc.
Nancy was born in Two Rivers, a daughter of the late Donald & Lenore (Tomcheck) Kozlowski. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Nancy graduated with the Class of 1956 from Washington High School. On June 22, 1957, she married James R. Swoboda at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Two Rivers. They were married for 56 years, James preceded her in death on November 22, 2013. Nancy was employed as a CNA at various nursing homes in the lakeshore area, she and Jim managed HUD Housing complexes in Stillwater, Minn. and Green Bay, as well as the Schmitt and Wright Group Homes in Manitowoc. Nancy retired from Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, where she was a Sterile Processing Tech, in 2003. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing dominos, sheepshead and cribbage. Nancy was a huge Green Bay Packer fan, who also enjoyed watching other football games. She was an active member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, had a “heart of gold” and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Nancy is survived by her daughter: Tammy Deprey of Manitowoc; her son: Terry Swoboda of Manitowoc; her grandchildren: Joel (Tabatha) Deprey, Justin (Jessica) Deprey, Ryan (fiancé’, Lindsey) Balliew, Brandon Swoboda (Lee, Crystal, Jennifer and Christopher), Jennifer (Markus) Daum, Alyssa Bastienelli and Kelli Schaal; and her great grandchildren: Calista, Quinn, Colin, Austin, Levi, Emma, Shane, Jr., Ailah, Easton, Brinley, Lacey, Collin, Emily and Mailo. She is further survived by her sisters: Sherrie (Keith) Guetschow and Sandy (Tom) Becker; her brother: Don (Debbie) Kozlowski; her sisters-in-law: Sharon Kozlowski and Traude Schwerzler; and members of the Denfeld family; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son: Todd A. Swoboda; her brother: Lee Kozlowski; her brother-in-law: Jerry Schwerzler; sister-in-law: Darlene Zueck; nephew: Brian Kozlowski and Robert Denfeld.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Stephen Melso with burial in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy 310, Manitowoc, at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
