Neil F. "Trix" Dassey, age 91, resident of Mishicot, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, December 9, 2024 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Neil was born in Two Rivers on March 10, 1933 to Lester J. and Eleanor A. (Krueger) Dassey. He attended Two Rivers schools, graduating from Washington High School with the class of 1952. Soon after graduation, Neil was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served his country for several years during the Korean Conflict. On May 25, 1957 he was united in marriage to LaVerne Mettler in Beulah, North Dakota. The couple was blessed with three children and celebrated 67 years of marriage. Neil and LaVerne were longtime faithful members of Emanuel United Methodist Church in Two Rivers.
Neil worked for a short time at the Reis Coal Company of Two Rivers and then became employed with Paragon Electric of Two Rivers where he worked for many years until his retirement in 1995. In his younger days, Neil enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking. In 2018, Neil was very happy and proud to experience the Old Glory Honor's Flight with many of his fellow veterans.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, LaVerne Dassey; three children: Tim Dassey of DePere, Kathy (Jim) Koch of Kossuth, and John Dassey of Mishicot; one granddaughter, Tania (Keith) Phillips; and one sister, Joyce Damman of Manitowoc. He is further survived by one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law: LeRoy Mettler and Veda Stellwagen; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Eleanor Dassey; one grandson, Kristopher; two brothers-in-law, Jim Damman and Robert Stellwagen; and his mother & father-in-law, Ida and Otto Mettler.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 13th at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th Street, Two Rivers. Rev. Cherie Forret will preside at the service, with burial in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Military graveside honors will take place at the funeral home immediately following the service by members of the American Legion and VFW Post of Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.

Neil was an avid Wisconsin Sports fan, and would not want anyone coming to his funeral in fancy dress. Instead, his wish would be for all to come in their favorite Wisconsin Sports team colors. Please be comfortable and wear your Packers, Brewers, Badgers, or Bucks clothing.
