Paula L. Kunz

April 20, 1927 — November 19, 2023

Paula Luise Kunz, resident of Northland Lodge Assisted Living Facility, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023.  Paula was born to Karl and Maria (Bracher) Eisenmenger, on April 20, 1927, in Heilbronn, Germany.  As a young woman, she emigrated to the United States, where she eventually became a naturalized citizen.  In time, she met and married, Frederick Kunz, and the couple eventually had two sons.
Paula was a hard-working person throughout her life.  In addition to raising her family, she worked full-time outside of the home, working at a variety of clerical jobs.  She retired from the Manitowoc County Treasurer’s Office in 1989, where she enjoyed the relationships with her co-workers.
In her private life, Paula enjoyed a variety of activities, including cooking traditional German dishes for family, making holiday gatherings special, gardening, writing to family and friends, attending family gatherings, and decorating the home.  Other activities she enjoyed included:  reading, knitting, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and watching a variety of television programs.  Additionally – in earlier years – she took several trips back to Germany (which held special meaning for her), and a number of trips around the U.S., including to Colorado, the Great Smoky Mountains, Pennsylvania, and New England.  In more recent years, she enjoyed daytrips to a variety of events and places (in particular, Door County).  She also loved the companionship of her beloved cats, Button, Junie, and Lexi.
As her health declined in recent months, she required living assistance outside the home.  After a couple of months of rehabilitation to attempt a return to living at home – which ultimately proved unsuccessful – she transferred to the Northland Lodge Assisted Living Facility, in Two Rivers.  As her health continued to deteriorate in recent weeks, she was admitted to hospice care, which was provided by the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice service.
Paula is survived by her beloved sons, George (Two Rivers) and Erich (Germany), cherished sisters Elisabeth (spouse, Karl, dec.), and Marlies (Siedler) Roth (spouse, Manfred),  sister-in-law, Elke (spouse, Hermann, dec.), and numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany.  In addition to her parents, husband and in-laws, Paula was preceded in death by her stepfather, Gustav Siedler, brothers Erich, Hermann, Heiner (spouse, Ilse, dec.), and Siegfried (spouse, Waltraud, dec.), cousins, and friends.
Paula’s family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Hamilton House Rehabilitation Facility, Northland Lodge Assisted Living Facility, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice,  for the kind, compassionate care they provided our beloved mother in her last days, which allowed her to leave the world with dignity.  Thanks, too, to all of those who expressed their condolences for our profound loss.  Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels is assisting the family with funeral arrangements, which will include a private service at a later date.
