Raymond H. Haack, Jr.

March 25, 1934 — March 8, 2024

Raymond H. Haack, Jr., age 89 of Mishicot, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living Facility, surrounded by family.

Ray was born on March 25, 1934 in Kewaunee, WI to Raymond and Margaret (Graff) Haack, Sr. He attended schools in Algoma, graduating from Algoma High School in 1951.  After high school Ray worked on the family farm, as well as Algoma Plywood.  In October of 1952, he married June Surfus in Alaska, WI.  Through 71 years of marriage they raised seven children – Debbie, Randy, Wendy, John, Rebecca, Donald and Pam.  The family moved to Mishicot in 1959 where Ray began working at Hamilton Industries as a millwright until his retirement in 1997.  He also worked as a greenskeeper at Fox Hills Country Club for many years.

Ray was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran in Rankin, WI.  This began his lifelong journey with his Savior.  He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mishicot where he served on several committees as well as the church council.

Ray enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of the Packers, Bucks and Brewers.  He loved playing golf, especially with the teams in the Fox Hills golf league where his teams won several championships.  He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports -  always offering support, as well as some useful tips for improvement.

Ray and June enjoyed the camping life for many years at Maple View Campground in Norman and were always willing to share their campfire with friends and family. After retirement, they wintered in Casa Grande, AZ for 10 years where they made many new friends and enjoyed new experiences. They also enjoyed gathering with his cousins to enjoy a meal and fellowship.

Ray will be remembered as a kind and caring person with a wry sense of humor.  He was always willing to lend a hand; If anyone had a problem – he’d know how to fix it.  More importantly his love and support for his family will always be cherished and missed.

Survivors include his wife, June; their children: Debbie Bennett, California, Randy Haack,  Mishicot, Wendy Schrimpf, Two Rivers, John (Darla) Haack, Mishicot, Rebecca (Rob) Brooks, Manitowoc, Donald (Kim) Haack, Mishicot, and Pam Haack, New Paris, IN.  He is further survived by his grandchildren: Robbie, Tina and Billy Bennett;  Ryan (Season) Haack;  Shaun Schrimpf, Shane Schrimpf, Shanna (Joe) McNeil, Brett Schrimpf;  Preston (Shannan) Haack, Brent(Emma) Haack, Colten (Stephanie) Haack, Quenten Haack, Savanna Haack;   Charlie Brooks, Anna Brooks, Brian Brooks, October Seizert, Isabella Brooks, Danyell Brooks, Skylar Brooks, Cristel (Hyden) Gamez, Seleste Brooks, Robbie Clemons, Samantha (Scott) Wallermann, Philip (Cindy) Perkins, Brittiann Perkins, Tonya (Bill) Schiller, Travis (Susie) Stuckart; Corey Haack, Allison (Austin) Haack, Braydon Haack; Brianna Labitzke, and David Labitzke; along with 19 great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Linda Haack;  one sister, Lee Ann Haack; brothers-in-law: Dennis Nitschke and Jerry Thuss; and a sister-in-law, Janet Pfile;  many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Haack; in-laws: William and Clarinda Lunn; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Leo Panosh; sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law: Grace Surfus, Carol Thuss, Sue Nitschke, Cecil Surfus Jr. and Allen Pfile.  He was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Ricky Schrimpf.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 325 Randolph Street, Mishicot.  Officiating at the service will be Pastor Joel Stuebs, with burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.

The Haack family would like to thank the staff at Shady Lane/Laurel Grove Assisted Living and the caregivers of Aurora at Home Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care of our dad over the past few months.
