Victor S. Simon, age 93, resident of Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, November 11, 2021.
Victor was born in Denton, Montana on April 5, 1928 to John and Mary (Simsa) Simon. He was a 1948 graduate of Denton High School where his sports records in the shot put and discus still stand. Vic's love for sports extended to the basketball court, football and baseball fields. Even in high school he spent the greater part of his recreational time golfing with friends and eventually traveling to every state in the U.S. including Canada, golfing with his buddies.
In 1950, Vic and his brother, Jerry received draft papers from the U.S. Army. They went on to serve their country for four years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1954.
Vic always had an interest in business and investments. As a teen he owned his own business breeding rabbits (300 to 400 at a time). He sold the meat and hides to companies in New York City. With his earnings, Vic began studying and investing in the stock market which became a life long interest for him. Vic spent the majority of his life working as a carpenter in Montana. When he moved to Manitowoc, he continued his carpentry skills working for the Manitowoc Shipyards, until retiring in 1986.
He is survived by nieces and nephews: Mary Junk, Michael Gollata, Virginia (Bruce) Klemm, Helen (Joe) Frozena, Carol (David) Gauthier, Verna Dessert, and Patty Groves; special friend, Marilyn Hampel; along with great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Simon; three sisters & two brothers-in-law: Blanche (Charles) Hynek, Anna (Leonard) Gollata, and Agnes Carson; two brothers & a sister-in-law: Jerry Simon, Daniel (Helen) Simon; one nephew, Donald Reiger; and a special friend, Irene Lalko.
A funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manitowoc.
